Reading this again, my heart still aches for Spike so much. The dream sequence evokes so beautifully his feelings for Dru and Giles took from him. But you're right, Giles has his ruthless side and he wouldn't have walked away and left Dru alive. He'd know that killing her would cripple Spike more effectively than any stake (at least temporarily)

And Angel acting as proper family was just perfect.

Now you really do have to have a new plan - sits up and looks hopeful!!
