I first saw Buffy on the BBC in late 1998 or early 1999 (I can't remember). I arrived in the middle of S2, just in time to see Angel turn evil. I was hooked from the first.

In 2000 we got our first computer and I discovered fanfic. The obligatory Bangel lasted a year or so and led to Spuffy for another year. Then I tripped over a very short Angelus/Giles, which disconcerted me, but intrigued me too. That led to Spangel and then Spander, where I have, basically, made my home ever since.

In 2002 I got a computer of my own and not only started saving stories, but got to join mail lists. Wow! the wealth of fiction, just dropping into my inbox every week.... (I remember there was one fantastic summer where I was picking up regular updates of Quantum Xander, Shame the Devil, Changes, Repossession, Secrets and Shacking Up, all at once. At least it was all at once, in my memory.)

I lurked for a couple of years and my first attempts at sending feedback intimidated me back into the shadows for another year. Then I reinvented myself as Maz and, buoyed by the knowledge that nobody knew who the hell I was, I started sending it anyway. And I discovered that you lot are actually not so very frightening, after all. *g*

But it was March 2005 before I posted my first story, Drifters, to m-mslashaholics, stepaway and Xanderslash (and a link to Excessant because it is Oz/X). It had taken me 9 months to write and I look back on it now with a mixture of fondness and exasperation.

While I was thinking about this, I remembered something I did over the next couple of years. I noticed that the mail lists were dying and since I was on dial up and picked up all my emails in one go on a Saturday morning, I started to log them. Just for fun, the resultant graph is below the cut.

Obsessive, me? Nah!

I stopped in May last year because that's when I got broadband, a LJ and found a whole new playground.

So I just wanted to say, thank you to everyone who welcomed me to LJ on that first day, a year ago, especially my dear [livejournal.com profile] sparrow2000 who came to my rescue, introduced me around and gave me an invaluable tutorial in how to do the basics like cuts, links and friending, and to all the writers whose work I have discovered since.

You are all brilliant! *Hugs Flist*
