When I said I felt like writing Xander for this prompt,

lilachigh suggested something that focused on his feelings when Cordy was in hospital, post kidnapping and microscope assault. That was a really good idea, but it's going to take a little bit more thought to develop it the way I want it to go, so I went with this instead.

I began writing this a couple of years ago, but it kind of died and I was left with this, and a few other orphan parts, and no idea what I was going to do with them. Then it occurred to me that a weekly prompt might be exactly the thing I need to make me take it/them in hand. I still have no idea what's going to happen, but I trust the prompts to help me out.

It might be more of an occasional series than a continuous story (the bits really are mostly unconnected bits) but with luck I might manage to get them fleshed out and turn them into something.

Summary: A sort of companion piece to 'Fag Ends'
Note: Xander's spoken dialogue is taken from BtVS Episode 5:22, The Gift
Note 2: The prompt 'riptide' set me off into a world of watery metaphor. There is no point in swimming against a riptide. The way to escape is to swim at 45 degrees to the direction of the current, using it, instead of fighting it.

I find this a really challenging task - getting a prompt at the end of the day on Sunday, going to work all week and posting by my log-off time on Saturday is not easy - but it sure is fun.
