Reccer's Comments: Awww, this fanvid... it's just so beautiful and moving! I love how it depicts the amazing chemistry between John Watson and Sherlock Holmes. It touches the heart with its seamless flow from present day to Victorian times (TAB). Our vidder's music selection--Mendelssohn’s Lieder Ohne Worte No. 7--makes this fanvid extra special since it's the classic violin piece Holmes loves to play for Watson in ACD canon. Seriously, it gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it. Hope you like it. It's well worth taking the time to view! :D

Title: Autumn in Wimpole
Author: currently anonymous (will be revealed on Oct. 31st)
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Length: 2,100 words
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: none
Verse: ACD Books
Author's summary: Watson struggles to uncover a mystery in a seaside village. Holmes is less than helpful.

Reccer's comments: The ACD Holmesfest is underway with so many delightful entries already and more to come! While this comm has an open recs post for the fest, it's also nice to have some more detailed recs. So let me start by calling your attention to this unique and lovely piece.

Here is a glimpse of Holmes and Watson, on the cusp of retirement, making their way through what Watson considers a lack-luster investigation amid the chilly ambience of a seaside resort town well past its summer prime. The author creates the details of the scene - the emptying streets, the dusty police station, the cramped local pub, the dark cliffside path - with an excellent eye for the most telling details.

The real marvel, though, is the keen and convincing take this story offers on Holmes and Watson's relationship, obviously established for many long years and deeply imbued with both affection and irritation. It is comfortable and prickly, teasing and sharp, boring on one level while obviously content and loving in its fundamentals. Here are two men who have made a life together for so long that they get on each other's nerves precisely because they know each other so well and are so completely synchronous in their routines.

Heart-warming with a tinge of melancholy, this fic left me feeling as if I had gotten a realistic and affectionate glimpse at this couple who, even ensconced in the mild aggravations of daily life, clearly can't live without each other.

Title: Inktober 2017 ASIP Sherlock portrait
Artist: lunadax
Pairing: none
Rating: G
Warnings: none
Verse: Sherlock BBC
Author's summary: Inktober 2017, Fandom Edition! ASIP Sherlock :)

Reccer's comments: This month there are so many amazing pieces of art coming out of the annual Inktober challenge. This particular portrait by lunadax is one of my favorites so far. A stunningly beautiful rendering of Sherlock's face with delicate crosshatching and a careful balance of light and shadow. I particularly love the abstracted look in his eyes.

Title: How and What Now
Author: [personal profile] yaycoffee
Pairing: John Watson/Sherlock Holmes
Length: 3149 words
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: None
Verse: Sherlock BBC

Author's summary:After John's life falls apart, he returns to Baker Street for good. Sherlock has questions. They find the answers together.

Reccer's comments: I love [personal profile] yaycoffee's gentle and perceptive writing style. She has such a nice way with words. Her portrayal of John and Sherlock always feel authentic. I would seriously recommend any of her stories, but I've decided to highlight her latest fic since it's post S4, and I personally feel we need more of those.

In this particular story, we are privy to Sherlock's warm and tentative inner thoughts regarding John's return to 221B after the events of TFP. He has questions but can't put them into words. We see the friends reunite and finally become a romantic couple. The progression is sweet and evocative. It is also clever as John--through their increasing intimacy--answers Sherlock's unspoken questions out loud. So well done.

Title: Holmes/Watson - This Soldiering Life
Music Title & Artist: "This Soldiering Life" by The Decemberists
Vidder: CorporalAlex
Pairing or Character: Holmes/Watson (but vidder says can also be seen as gen if preferred)
Verse: Granada
Link: YouTube link: This Soldiering Life vid

Reccer's Comments: This delightful vid is ten years old now, but still such a sweet and cheerful tribute to the wonderful Granada adventures. The image quality is not the best, but the editing is apt and playful, with many creative matches for the song's lyrics. And the song itself is simply perfect for Holmes and Watson. I defy you not to be charmed! :)
