The Friday Five
Mar. 18th, 2017 10:26 amThere were a few students wandering around the street in green hats as I walked to the Metro yesterday evening. I guess it was St Patrick's Day *g*
1. Have you ever been to Ireland?
No, I haven't. I'm not really sure why not.
2. According to Facts about Ireland, 73% of Americans are unable to locate Ireland on a map bereft of country names. Whether you are American or not, can you find it on a map?
*laughs* I would be ashamed of myself if I couldn't. It is only next door, after all.
3. Are you or do you know a natural redhead?
Well, yes. Like many people in this part of the country, I can also trace my ancestry back to Irish immigrants. I was surrounded by red heads growing up.
4. Will you be celebrating St Patrick's Day?
No. See above - I didn't know it was St Patrick's day yesterday, until I was heading home and even then it was just a guess. Apart from being a marketing excuse for Guinness in a couple of the local pubs, it is really not a thing.
5. Do you even know who St. Patrick is and why we celebrate his day?
I know who he was. I know both what is believed to be to be his actual history and the story about the snakes, but celebrate his saint's day... why would you? *g*
