I always enjoy it when you venture marginally outside canon. *g* It's easy to go way outside, but to do this, to keep so close but not really there is much more challenging. I love it when you do it.

Willow was a friend, so she didn't count. *snort* Of course, she didn't count. This was just perfect and a perfect lead-in for S1.

The whole paragraph was wonderful, but I particularly enjoyed: And just like the cracks in the pavements, there came a time when it was no longer spoken of out loud, except to ridicule, but being cautious had become natural. Others have commented, I see, on this, but yes, I would imagine learning the truth of Sunnydale without knowing the nuts and bolts would be something residents did well before the slayer arrived. This is skilfully illustrated here.

There's so much teen angst in this piece, but it made me smile in a way I haven't in a while. There's a purity about it along with the heartbreak. Very sweet, and very nicely done. I'd love to see more of it. :)
