I do love what you're doing with this story. Seeing the "Before" for the characters we think we know so well is fascinating.
"And wasn't that pathetic, that he became excited by the fear of animals, when once he had been the source of nightmares to princes and generals?" Lovely evocative image of just how far Angel had fallen since the curse.
I really like that Angel is using his experience to plan his recovery and integration. He may be physically weak, but there's nothing wrong with his brain, and he's using every brain cell in that big forehead of his. Well at least he will until he catches sight of the Slayer, and then the brain will go out to lunch on a bunch of blonde hair!
Very nice link between past and present through the Bodhisattva, and the dream of the Comtesse was as erotic as it was casual - "He came five times that day, using all three of her entrances." Such arrogance, but that was Angelus, and the statue will remind Angel of the past he has to guard against.
Lovely set up, hon. I can't wait for you to progress this.
Btw, I did send you an email earlier in the week just giving you an update of how things are here, but email is playing up, so I think you probably didn't get it. When I do this week's chapter, I might send it from my work email, to be safe.
