Almost from the start of this story, I've played with the idea of ending it with Giles hearing that the slayer and her mother have moved to Cleveland, making this a version of The Wish 'verse, but I couldn't make up my mind so decided to let the idea hang. What do you all think? What happens next?

This is how it would have ended, if I'd done it -

Giles and Willow in the library -
Giles - "I just received a letter from the Council. They say that the slayer has moved to Cleveland."
Willow - "She's not coming here?"
Giles - "Apparently not."
Willow - "But... Hellmouth?"
Giles - "It would appear there is also one in Ohio."
Willow - "Oh."
Giles sat down at the table and put his head in his hands.
Willow - "Well, um... we'll just have to do it ourselves." Giles stared at her, surprised by the certainty in her voice. "After all," she added, "we just killed three really old and powerful vampires." Her mouth turned down and her lips quivered slightly. Giles knew she was thinking about her friends. He reached across the table and gave her hand a slight squeeze. Looking up, she gave him a tremulous smile.

Heh, I liked the way you ended it - but this is interesting as an aside. I lol'ed aloud at Willow saying they managed to kill three really old vamps - cause they didn't, they only think they did. *g*

I know, they didn't, but since there would be no evidence either way, once the fire was put out...
I think you're right, this is just an aside. Just an idea to play with but not one I will develop. One day I might write a story set in the wish'verse, but this one was always intended to be over and done months before Buffy would have arrived.

I like the ending as it stands. this story was never about giles and Willow and it shouldn't end with them.

*g* Yes, you are right. It was Spike's and Angel's story, really, for all that it was a S/X pairing.
I was going to include this as a foot note to the last chapter, but even that seemed a bit too close, hence the separate post.
It could have been an epilogue to the epilogue though, I suppose... *laughs at her own foolishness*

I like this as a sort of coda to the other ending, perhaps an extended one-off at some point but not something you would develop?

Yes, that's a good idea. I liked it as an idea but didn't want to tie the ice cream 'verse down too the certainty of the wish 'verse. *g* A coda, that's a lovely word and suits it very well. Thank you.

If you ever did do something with the Wish 'verse, you could use it as a prologue. *g*

Yes, I hadn't thought of separating it from the rest of this story. Thanks. Hmmm, I could do that. *g* And I just might.
