If you remember, part of what Buffy demanded from Spike, when he went to make his deal with her, was a phial of his blood. At that time, Dru had put a forgetting compulsion on him, so he didn't remember Xander. The implication was that Giles got rid of the original spell, off Spike, as he did for Xander, but when Spike got his memory back, he didn't know that and he only remembered how he'd felt when the spell was still in force. Now he's met Xander again, without the spell, and the change in how he feels was disconcerting. You are so right - Spike's life really is jinxed. *g* I'm so glad you are still enjoying it.
