I know. I think it's a strong signal that I'm getting old - I am starting to weep for the English language *g* (rather than being part of the generation that is changing it.)
Why on earth do you expect the BBC newsreaders to have good standards? The BBC practically invented the notion that dialect forms of pronunciation and grammar are preferable to Received English.
I have no problem with dialect forms of pronunciation, but when the person in question speaks with a traditional BBC/received pronunciation accent, I do expect them to conform to received grammar as well. Anyway, that one has been annoying me in fic, recently. I blame Microsoft - half the time the green squiggly line wants to turn 'who' into 'that'. It's a problem when people trust algorithms instead of thinking.
As I have for a goodly number of years now (*g*), I wish you all things magical and bright in this year to come. May you be touched by angels, fairies, and the occasional falling star. much love, S.
