Six Merlin drabbles and half drabbles
Rating: Universal.
Warnings: One of them is a bit angsty.
Spoilers: Really, I don't think there are any. A very tiny one for The Moment Of Truth, maybe, but you'd only recognise it as such if you've seen the episode.
Comments: Are greatly appreciated, loved and cherished.
Disclaimer: here.
1. Half Drabble
Title: Magic
Summary: Merlin growing up
It was a mellowness that grew with him and he was five before he believed his mother when she said that others didn't feel it.
He didn't reach for it, any more than he'd reach for... seeing.
The burnt hayrick and Old Simmons' head, taught him the value of deceit.
2. Half Drabble
Title: Destiny
Summary: A child's dream
When Merlin was six, he dreamed of a man in black cloak, with no face under his hood.
"Your destiny," the man whispered, "is to build a king. To turn base human metal into gold."
Then Merlin woke.
And forgot.
It was years before anyone spoke to him of coins.
3. Drabble
Title: Seeing
Summary: Arthur's waiting for something
Sitting in his familiar chair, his familiar goblet in hand, Arthur stared around his chamber wondering why everything looked so... unfamiliar. The fire sent shadows dancing across the walls and his face burnt with its heat, while the back of his neck felt the chill breeze of autumn which whispered in through unseen cracks and crevasses.
With a crash, the door hit the wall and Merlin appeared, Arthur's supper teetering on the edge of tipping off the tray.
At once, everything was right with Arthur's world.
To cover his relief, he snarled, "Where the hell have you been?"
Merlin grinned.
4. Drabble
Title: Touch
Summary: A moment of recognition
Arthur's britches slipped down his legs to pool around his ankles. He toed them off, fighting the cuff that caught at his heel. Studying Merlin's face, he saw how his deliberate smirk was greeted by nothing other than a warm smile beneath knowledgeable eyes.
With a sigh, he walked forward into arms that held him close and a body that welcomed him with reverence, honour and respect. Merlin's hand skimmed down his back, coming to rest on his hip, a feather-light caress, finally allowing his father's angry words to fade from memory.
Under Merlin's touch his soul was healed, again.
5. The Angsty Half Drabble
Title: Incomprehensible
Summary: We know it's inevitable, but what does Merlin think?
Some anonymous princess, some unknown Earl's daughter, who understood convenience and the duty to bear an heir, before retiring decorously to a nunnery, or taking a lover of her own and raising the resultant children as orphans, given a home from charity. Yes.
But Guinevere?
Guinevere, who loved them both?
6. Drabble
Title: Hospitals
Summary: A reincarnation drabble
Merlin walked into the hospital ward, recognising him immediately, even though the fair head was bowed on his chest as he slept in his chair. It had taken so long to find him, but there he was.
Gazing, rapt, Merlin's heart clenched. Here he'd been for most of this life.
He must have made some small sound, because Arthur stirred and looked up. His eyes widened. "At last," he sighed. "You know, they lock you up, these days, if you're born with a grown man's memories. Have you any idea how hard it is to stay sane in this place?"

Date: 2009-08-25 03:00 pm (UTC)No 6 probably would make the basis of a longer story, and if I knew anything about long-term residential mental hospitals, I'd give it a go. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't. Perhaps I should offer it up as a plot bunny for adoption.
