I've got a project

I've been on holiday for 3 whole weeks. It's been great, reading stuff and not writing as much as I intended. Then the other day,
sexymermaid posted a note in
darker_spike that the
rerunawards needed more votes. That finally spurred me in to action. So I went to the Master List all set to do my 'civic duty'.
I decided I wasn't qualified to judge anything except BtVS/AtS or Firefly - I just don't know the other fandoms well enough to recognise OOC if it came and kicked me in the shins.
The Best of Buffy and Angel list was just daunting (118 nominations!). So I went for the Best of Firefly with a mere 12 nominations.
Taking notes as I read, so I can remember how good a story is, means hard copy. Those 12 nominations (taking only the first 3 chapters of large works) end up as 45 pages of A4 - even with the font all set at Ariel 10pt and the paragraph spacing removed.
But I have read them all and I just went and voted.
That's not the project. I now have 449 pages of BtVS/AtS to read. And that is ignoring the ones with broken or incorrect links or which I read recently.
If anyone wants a copy of either word document, to save you doing all the clicking and stuff... send me an e-mail to maztodaygonetomorrow-at-hotmail.co.uk and I'll send them to you. Voting ends September 29th
ps I probably should apologise to Dulin (and possibly others) I didn't notice the instruction not to take or reproduce without permission until I had printed the document out. But I did only take the first 3 parts.

Date: 2006-08-24 03:14 pm (UTC)I enjoyed reading the Firefly. I even made a note to go back to 2 of them and read the rest.
I like having paper to read from, especially in bed and when I was on dial-up I became expert at the quick copy, paste, get-off-line then format thing.
After doing all that work, it seemed sensible to offer it up. I doubt I'll be inundated though - few people see my pages.

Date: 2006-08-24 03:49 pm (UTC)Firefly I read a bit of in two contests I judged. It's good stuff. I really like the voices some writers can capture.

So where is this D/s poll? *going to look in a moment*
Yes, some writers really catch the voices beautifully. But that is what I love about Joss'verse fic - when a writer catches the voices, without directly quoting from the scripts, when they catch the essence and use their own words in that idiom (is that the word I am looking for?) it is wonderful.
btw - Sparrow and I might have a bit in common, but I refute any suggestion (which I acknowledge you have not made) that it is a British thing *grin*

Date: 2006-08-28 05:53 am (UTC)And I also just read your entry about the Winchester boys calling their dad "sir." I love that show...I think they have a formal relationship with him because he had to raise them to listen to him unconditionally, like they were in the military. If he said it's time to get out of here, they needed to listen and not question him.
Have you seen the season ending episode yet? GAH!

Date: 2006-08-28 07:37 am (UTC)The Winchester thread was interesting. I think you are right and I had sort of thought that, but I saw one episode where they did it a lot and the night before I had seen a movie where there was a prospective son-in-law who called her father 'Sir' and it suddenly got me wondering. I have seen all of season 1 - the ending there is a real cliff-hanger, with doom and danger written all over it. Is season 2 showing in the US, yet?
Your comment reminds me about another thing that has puzzled me on and off, for ages. I think I might ask the question in a post - see if anybody answers. Please, feel free to join in.
I hope you enjoy the stories.
