Excellent analogy about playing someone else's music. Very interesting! Thanks.

It was, wasn't it. I thought the whole theme of modern mixing, sampling, etc was a very interesting point

Ooooh I saw that one! I thought it was perfect, so intelligently written, not overly defensive or following the usual route of making fanfic writers sound like creeps, but just showing everything it can be and the enjoyment it brings. I remember thinking after reading it that I don't get how anyone could read that and think fanfic (and fandoms) are wrong to enjoy.

It was nice to see a positive case put forward.

Very interesting. I've always thought of fanfiction beginning it's current shape with Star Trek. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. information was unexpected. I wonder, if we dig, if we would find an earlier fandom than that?

Me too. Star Trek is the usual case quoted, I think. I've seen the Shakespeare example before, but I liked how the article linked fanfic into a continuous tradition.

That's an exceptionally good article! I particularly liked this:

in some cases, the quality is higher than that of the original too

(which is also the case with some film adaptations).

*laughs* I could name a few, too.

Thanks love, it's nice to read a well written, non judgemental article on fanfic for a change.
