I have a strong feeling that I am preaching to either the converted, or the out-of-reach, here, but this is a reminder that the poll for the timing of the [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk 2012 Event (which has to move because of those pesky Olympics) is open for one more week.

You can vote here and you can find out more about the sort of interesting things that go on at The Event here, plus, more generally at the LJ.

Do go and browse. There are even podcasts of the 2011 talks.

There's a guarenteed welcome to everybody with any interest in fandom (any fandom) be it as reader, writer, artist, beta or simply as an admirer of things fannish.

It really is hugely fun, with lots of laughter, good company, food and drink to be had.

Why not go and vote and then come to Coventry, next year?

They need an option for 'are you more or less likely to come if people go on and on about those blasted chairs?' and 'what voice part are you?'

I am astonished that places as far out as Coventry will be affected by the Olympics. It seems so ridiculous to have all this disruption for a couple of weeks of sport.

The chairs have become an in-joke, you're right, and in-jokes do tend to exclude those who are not in the in.

I'm with you on the disruption for sport thing *g* but apparently, a number of people want to sit and watch it on telly. Also, there will be events happening outside London (I think Football was mentioned) and anybody travelling from London, or from south or east of it, will have real trouble getting out, past or through.

You are right about in jokes. But I think as a group writercon is very aware of the potential problems of being too cliquey and is doing a lot to dispell it. It is always hard to judge of course but at least the movers and shakers are always thinking about the problem and taking steps :)

Why on earth do they have football as part of the Olympics? It's not as if the wretched game isn't on 24/7 the rest of the time. The Olympics should be a chance to give it a rest.
